Gerrard left out of MLS squad
Steven Gerrard has been left out of the MLS All-Star squad to face Premier League side Arsenal. He is not the only star player to miss out though as it is reported that Frank Lampard, as well as former Arsenal player Ashley Cole, will also not feature in the team.
However, Didier Drogba, as well as Kaka, David Villa and Giovani Dos Santos, will all form part of the team that will be facing Arsene Wenger’s side on the 28th July. The match is annual event whereby an MLS All-Star team faces a Premier League side and this year it will be Arsenal.
Didier Drogba is accustomed to playing against Arsenal during his time at Chelsea. Indeed he has always enjoyed playing against the Gunners where he has scored a total of 13 goals against them. He will be relishing the opportunity to test himself against a side that he has enjoyed tormenting in the past.
So far there is no official reason why Steven Gerrard, as well as the other star players, are not going to face the Gunner. Both Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard are designated players and will have loved to feature in this highly mediatized match, but they will have to watch it as a spectator.
Arsenal, who is actively preparing themselves for the start of the Premier League season, is expected to come to the United States with a full-strength side. Arsene Wenger is still active in the transfer market and may make more signings before the start of the new season. If this is the case, then Gunners fans in the United States can expect to see some new faces in the team.
Steven Gerrard and the other players will be frustrated that they were not given a chance to play in his high-profile match with the MLS All-Star team.
