GERRARD CALLS ON OWNERS

Steven Gerrard has called for the Liverpool owners to give manager Brendan Rodgers a new contract without wasting time. The former Swansea manager has transformed the fortunes of the club after taking over a few years ago. Even though he could only get Liverpool into finishing outside the top six in the last two seasons, the club has been brilliant this campaign. Their brand of football has made them exciting to watch, while also successful at the same time. Liverpool are currently challenging for the title with only a few matches left in the campaign.

Apart from a single season under Rafa Benitez, they have not been in this position in the last two decades. Further, Liverpool have been scoring goals for fun throughout the season. Gerrard has stated that the transformation is obvious and that Liverpool should not waste time in handing Rodgers a new deal. The contract of the manager runs out next summer, while he himself stated that he is not in a hurry to discuss terms right now. Liverpool managed a breathtaking 3-0 win over rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford.

This was one of the few occasions when Liverpool enjoyed success at Old Trafford. The 41-year-old has been linked with jobs across Europe in the last few weeks.

“Brendan has been a revelation. He keeps tinkering and tweaking formations, making little changes to personnel and pulls it off. He is a young coach who has earned the right to become Liverpool manager and from week to week he is improving and he has been an absolute breath of fresh air to this club. I am learning off him every day. He has been fantastic for myself and I am sure the other players will echo what I am saying,” said the Liverpool captain, who scored two against United.
